The Body Shop on Oliver Plunkett Street.

The Body Shop stores across Ireland are set to close from Thursday, February 29.

Staff in Cork have received email communications informing them that Irish stores will be closing.

In the email, they were advised that a store may remain open for the purpose of selling off stock, but this was not guaranteed.

The Body Shop currently employs 40 full-time staff across seven stores in Ireland, including the Cork store on Oliver Plunkett Street.

Last week, The Body Shop UK went into administration, since announcing the closure of nearly half of its 198 stores, leaving thousands of staff members facing redundancy.

The Oliver Plunkett Street store in Cork city is currently still open and staff are trading as normal. At this point in time staff have said they are unclear on information regarding redundancies, and that they have engaged with SIPTU to discuss redundancy options.

The Body Shop was founded back in 1976 by Anita Roddick and her husband Gordon.

The first Irish store was opened in Dublin in 1981, and the next store to open was located in Cork.
