It’s not easy juggling two jobs at once but new Dublin senior hurling manager Niall Ó Ceallacháin is “making it work at the minute” as he chases back-to-back Dublin SHC titles with Na Fianna.
Ó Ceallacháin was not the name on everyone’s lips to replace Micheál Donoghue in the Dublin hotseat but he brings strong form to the table having led Na Fianna to a first Dublin senior crown last year.
He is on the hunt for more as a particularly busy period awaits around the corner and the Na Fianna supremo isn’t alone with several other managers keeping busy on two fronts at the minute.
Robbie Brennan (Kilmacud Crokes and Meath – football), Malachy O’Rourke (Glen and Tyrone – football) and Tom Mullally (Naas and Carlow – hurling) are just some of those performing a tricky balancing act like Ó Ceallacháin is.
“There’s a lot on week to week, we’re making it work there at the minute,” Ó Ceallacháin told TG4 Sport.
“We put a lot into it, we put a lot into both club and county so we’re making it work at the minute.”
On the honour of taking the county reins, he added: “I’m a proud hurling man from Dublin, along with the group I have with me. I’m very much looking forward to that when we’re finished here. I’m very much looking forward to getting stuck in there.”
Ó Ceallacháin looks set to have his hands full for at least another fortnight after the defending Dublin SHC champions booked their place in the last four with a resounding victory over Ballyboden St Enda’s yesterday.
