The flight was diverted to Dublin Airport

A Delta Air Lines flight was forced to divert to Dublin this week to allow for an “unruly” passenger to be removed.

Flight DL83 was 90 minutes into its journey from Paris to Atlanta when it forced to change course toward Ireland on Wednesday.

It later emerged that a man in his 30s was arrested after “an incident” on board, gardai told Business Insider.

The Airbus A330, which had departed nearly 20 minutes late, eventually landed nearly three hours later in Atlanta.

Images shared on social media appeared to show a man being led off the plane in handcuffs.

According to the aviation newsletter, A2Z the fire service was standing by at Dublin Airport because the plane had to make an overweight landing.

It couldn’t dump fuel, given it was set to continue flying across the Atlantic.

In a statement to Business Insider, Delta said the plane had to stop in Dublin to remove an “unruly customer”.

“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behaviour and will work with law enforcement authorities to that end,” the airline said in its statement. “We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”

Meanwhile, a stowaway was discovered on another Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Paris.

The passenger had managed to fly from the US to France without a ticket before being discovered on the flight.

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spokesperson said the woman – who boarded the Delta Air Lines flight without a ticket – had managed to bypass two “identity verification” stations.

The woman was caught onboard Delta Airlines flight 264 from New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on Tuesday.

A source told NBC News that upon landing in Paris, the stowaway was removed from the aircraft by police officers.

Delta Air Lines said in a statement: “Nothing is of greater importance than matters of safety and security.

“That’s why Delta is conducting an exhaustive investigation of what may have occurred and will work collaboratively with other aviation stakeholders and law enforcement to that end.”
