Urgent ‘stop use’ alert as popular heating item sold in two Irish shops recalled

A POPULAR homeware item is being recalled from Irish stores due to “electric shock” and fire fears.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission confirmed that TK Maxx and Homesense are recalling a heating pad.

The Bluzen Deluxe Heating Pad was sold in stores around the country.

The heat pad presents a risk of electric shock as the connector attached can overheat and melt during use.

There is also a risk of fire, burns and damage to property.

There were around 192 affected products sold in the Republic of Ireland.

They were on sale in TK Maxx and Homesense shops between December 2023 and March 2024.

A CCPC spokesperson said: “TJX Ireland Unlimited Company t/a TK Maxx and Homesense is carrying out a recall of Bluzen Deluxe Heating Pad.

“The product has a risk of electric shock, fire, burns and damage to property as the connector attached to the heat pad can overheat and melt during use.

“The brand is Bluzen. The model numbers are Heat101 and Heat102.

“The product code shown on the price sticker and the receipt will be either 032719, 936707, 936723, 936724 or 936728.

“The barcode and batch number are unknown.

“There are approximately 192 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. The product was on sale in TK Maxx and Homesense stores between December 2023 and March 2024.”

The CCPC is urging people to stop using the product “immediately” and return it to the store for a full refund.

They said: “Customers should stop using the product immediately and return it to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a full refund.

“If customers have any further queries in relation to this recall, please email TK Maxx at customerservice@tjxeurope.com or call on 01 2476126.”

Last week, a popular chocolate treat was pulled from some supermarket shelves.

Batches of Magnum Classic Ice Cream Sticks were pulled over the “possible presence of plastic and metal pieces”.

The ice-creams were understood to have been sold in a number of stores nationwide, including Dunnes Stores, who have advised customers not to eat any of the affected batches.

The batch codes affected are L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341 and L3342 with the best before date of December 2025.
