Irish sports technology company Output Sports has today announced details of its expansion into the US market.

Output Sports, a University College Dublin (UCD) spin-out and an Enterprise Ireland client company, is seeking to collaborate with the Boston Red Sox baseball team as part of its investment in the State of Massachusetts.

The company made the announcement while meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar during a visit to Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox team, as part of the Taoiseach’s trip to the US for St Patrick’s Day.

The company’s products enable strength and conditioning coaches, sport scientists and rehab professionals, to fully understand and optimise their athletes’ performance using a single wearable sensor system.

Its technology is currently used by sports practitioners across more than 30 countries, including in the US and in multiple sports.

In late 2022, Output Sports launched a V2 product which has led to significant US growth with over 300 new clients.

The company recently established a new office in Boston and co-founder and CEO, Dr Martin O’Reill,y has also relocated from Ireland to Boston to further build its US growth team.

Former Leinster and Ireland rugby player Adam Byrne was earlier this year appointed as Output Sports’ Commercial Manager for North America.

Dr Martin O’Reilly, CEO, said that since the launch of its V2 product, Output Sports has seen tremendous growth in the US with product usage across elite sport, education settings and gyms.

“It is an incredibly exciting time for us at Output as we double down on the US opportunity, and it is a privilege to have this recognised as part of this week’s US St Patrick’s events,” he added.

Output Sports, headquartered at NovaUCD in Dublin was co-founded in 2018 by Dr Martin O’Reilly, Dr Darragh Whelan, Julian Eberle and Professor Brian Caulfield as a spin-out from the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science and the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics after the completion of Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Funding.
