Two gardaí came to the rescue on a couple’s wedding day yesterday by helping their florist, whose van had broken down in Dublin.
Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd were on an early bank holiday Monday patrol in Dún Laoghaire when, shortly after 8am, they noticed a woman waving to get their attention.
An Garda Síochána shared details of the event on their social media account, describing how the woman, identified as Róisín, seemed visibly “frazzled” when the officers stopped to speak with her.
When Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd asked if all was well, Róisín explained that she was actually in the midst of a “wedding-day emergency”.
She had been hired to prepare and deliver fresh floral arrangements to Lady Chapel in Maynooth, Co Kildare, for a couple’s wedding that same day.
Róisín had rented a van specifically to transport the flowers, which had just arrived overnight to be set up in time for the ceremony.
However, her hired van had broken down unexpectedly, leaving her unable to reach the wedding venue on schedule.
Róisín further explained that while she had contacted roadside assistance, it would take too long to get her vehicle sorted, and no replacement van would arrive in time.
An Garda Síochána’s social media post captured the moment: “Love knows no bounds”.
The two gardaí, already in a van large enough to carry the flower arrangements, offered Róisín a ride to the venue. Carefully loading up the Garda van with buckets of blooms, Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd managed to transport both Róisín and the floral arrangements to the chapel in time.
The gardaí concluded their post with a message, hoping that the newlyweds, Lara and Seamus, “had a beautiful day” and wishing them every happiness in the years to come.
