Ireland have made their presence felt at the international stage for years now by featuring in marquee events. They are prepared to challenge the world giants at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 this June. However, the players might be playing the big event without the player’s contracts at their disposal. To sum up, the Ireland cricketers could be playing on expired contracts.

The move comes as Cricket Ireland and the Irish Cricketers’ Association begin to sort out the details of their first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will highlight players’ deals. CI had announced the central contracts for players in March for the year 2023-24. As of now, 14 players see the end of their two-year contracts, and seven of them are on the brink of ceding their one-year contracts.

The contracts of the players reached an end in February. It is worth noting that the players have been representing Ireland even after the culmination of the contracts. The move comes as the players have been playing on the prerequisite deals that have been kept alive for an indefinite period without the paperwork for the latest one.

Ireland have packed schedule amidst contractual obligations

Ireland’s men will undergo a gruelling schedule over the next two weeks. They will be playing seven T20Is between May 10-24 against Pakistan, Netherlands, and Scotland. Subsequently, they will board the flight to the United States for the T20 World Cup where they face India, Pakistan, USA, and Canada in Group A, and their busy schedule is not productive for negotiations of their contracts.
