Ikea announced the further expansion of its presence in Ireland with the upcoming opening of a new ‘Plan and Order Point’ in Sligo.

“This marks a significant milestone as Ikea establishes its first-ever presence in the northwest of the country,” the retailer said in a statement yesterday.

The retailer first opened its doors in Ireland in Ballymun in Dublin in 2009, with Ikea last year revealing that its Dublin store was its best-selling worldwide.

It is the retailers sixth Plan and Order Point in Ireland, with another three planned to open within the next year. The new store will open its doors in Sligo at 9am on Friday, April 19.

Martyn Allan, market manager of Ikea Ireland said: “We are thrilled to introduce a slice of Swedish design and affordable home solutions to new areas of Ireland, where we haven’t previously been physically present.”

“Beyond kitchen planning, these locations serve as an ideal hub for assisting individuals who live a distance from our Ballymun store, whether they’re looking to order a new sofa, wardrobe, or any other Ikea product,” he added.

Ikea’s Ireland store number one in the world as sales hit €250m

The new store will be located in The Canopy, Sligo’s newest shopping destination, which last year underwent a €1 million rebrand and makeover.

With Ikea as one of the retailers in the shopping centre, it is believed that the Swedish retailer will bolster its position as one of the main shopping destinations in the northwest.

A spokesperson for The Canopy, formerly Johnston Court Shopping Centre, Sligo, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ikea Plan and Order Point to The Canopy as their hub for the North West.

“As part of the centre’s imagination, we hope this addition to Sligo brings exciting new possibilities for those designing and furnishing their homes.”

The Sligo store will showcase six different kitchens, two PAX wardrobe solutions, have a home furnishings planning area and an appliance studio.

The introduction of a Plan and Order Point in Sligo follows the successful launch of Ikea’s first such outlet in Naas in 2021, and subsequent openings in Cork, Drogheda, Carlow, and the St. Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre in Dublin.

Ikea’s Plan and Order Points are specialised outlets, designed to provide customers with bespoke kitchen and wardrobe planning services.

At these locations, customers can access in-depth home furnishing advice and expertise, assisting them in designing, purchasing and installing their ideal kitchens, bedrooms, and other furnishings.

Customers in Sligo will be able to drop-in or book an appointment to start their design with one of the four Ikea design specialists working in the store.

Products can then be ordered from across the full Ikea range for delivery direct to the customer’s home or a location of their choice.

Appointments can be made online via the Ikea website.
