Tramore’s Jack Hearn & Hugh Foley from Royal Dublin are the best of the Irish at the 58th Lytham Trophy with both sitting in 12th place on two-over par, five shots off the leaders.

Hearn returned a second round 69 (-1) on Saturday which included birdies on 10 and 13 before an untimely bogey on the 15th dropped him back while Foley recorded three birdies and three bogeys in his 70 (even par) but both have some ground to make up if they are to challenge Jamie Van Wyk from Lytham and St. Annes after he added a second round 70 to his opening 67 and sits atop the leaderboard on three-under par.

Van Wyk is one shot ahead of James Ashfield from Delamere Forest with France’s Oscar Couilleau, Andrew Haswell from England and Spain’s Luis Masaveu just one shot further back on one-under.

Malone’s Matt McClean found some form in his second round after a tough first day and his level par 70 sees him in T19th on three-over with Jack McDonnell from Royal Dublin Ireland’s only other player to make the cut and he is on five-over in T36th position ahead of the third round.
