Former County Down GAA goalkeeper, Charlie Smyth has successfully made the transition from Gaelic Football to American Football as he signs for NFL giants the New Orleans Saints.

The Irishman has sign a 3 year deal with the Saints. The 22 year old made a great impression at the NFL Pro Day in Florida last week.

Smyth managed to kick 8 out of 10 field goal attempts and caught the eyes of the former SuperBowl champions.

He was trained by international kicking and punting coach Tadhg Leader, in a recent X post following the news Tadgh had this to say: “
