A SHOP in Enniskillen has been targeted in an “appalling” overnight arson attack.
The Rooney’s Eurospar shop in the Cornagrade Road areaof the Co Fermanagh town had a window broken before 3am on Monday, before a lit device was thrown inside.
Police said they believe the man responsible used a hammer to smash the window, and after throwing the device made off in the direction of Kilmacormick Road/Avenue.
“Luckily, officers attended and managed to extinguish the flames before major damage was caused,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
They added of the suspect: “He is described as being approximately 6 feet tall, of medium build and was wearing a black beanie hat, black coat, black bottoms and black shoes.
“We are treating this as arson and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anyone suspicious in the area overnight or to anyone with CCTV, doorbell or other footage that could assist enquiries to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 135 of 20/11/23.”
Fermanagh and South Tyrone DUP MLA Deborah Erskine condemned the attack, describing it as “absolutely appalling behavior” in a social media post.
“Local businesses work hard to provide a service to the community. This could well have been a very different story without the quick actions of our local police,” she said.
“Thinking of the owners and staff of Rooney’s Spar, who had to pick up the pieces of somebody’s despicable actions.”
