In February, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee raised an alarm in the Dáil about the dwindling state of Ireland’s night-time economy, declaring it is “falling away.” Her stark observation was underscored by a sobering statistic: the number of nightclubs in the country has plummeted to just 70, a drastic decline from the 522 that existed in 2000.

“A couple of years ago there might have been that number in three or four counties,” she said, highlighting the rapid and concerning shrinkage of nightlife venues across Ireland.
