The Cork man wore a custom Atelier Versace suit as he collected his Academy Award for Best Actor last Sunday and will now front the brand’s next campaign.

It will launch on April 3 under the Versace Icons line, marking his first major brand partnership.

Murphy became the first Irish-born star to win the award, for his portrayal of J Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist described as the father of the atomic bomb, in Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic Oppenheimer.

Murphy thanked his parents as he collected the award, with his family watching on from their home in Ballintemple, Co Cork.

His father Brendan told Ráidió na Gaeltachta’s Saol Ó Dheas about their Oscar party and their reaction to the acceptance speech, while Madonna has also hailed the Oppenheimer star as her “favourite actor” after meeting him at an Oscars after-party on Sunday.

The Peaky Blinders star was later pictured celebrating his achievement at talent manager Guy Oseary’s annual extravagant after-party, co-hosted this year by pop superstar Madonna.

The singer, who attended the party dressed as Marie Antoinette, shared a photo of herself and Murphy to Instagram.

She wrote alongside the post: “Oscar Party was fun! Not exactly a night off for a girl that… needs a night off. But I’m so happy I got to meet my favourite A.C.T.O.R! #cillianmurphy – Congratulations!”

Actor Sam Neill also posed with Murphy, sharing a photo to Instagram of the pair.

“Here’s me pal Cillian Murphy the next day with the Gold Fella, and me. I could not be more thrilled, as you see,” he said.

“So well deserved. We had a great catch up and a Bloody Mary. Or two. What an actor, what a performance and what a movie.”

Oppenheimer swept the Oscars, winning seven categories including best director for Nolan, ending his 22-year wait for an Academy Award.
