The store which sold the winning ticket for Saturday’s lotto jackpot is the same one which sold the ticket for what was once the biggest ever Euromillions win in Europe.

The National Lottery has confirmed that the lucky ticket worth €8,970,934 was sold at Garryowen Stores in in Limerick City – the same store which sold Dolores McNamara her Euromillions winning quick pick ticket in July of 2005.

Speaking at a media event at his famous store in Limerick City, store owner Tom Brosnan was in disbelief that his small store could sell another life-changing lottery prize in his time.

“We’re back on the map for a lottery win, big time. It’s been almost 20 years since we sold the winning EuroMillions ticket to Dolores (McNamara) but this win is just as magical. Most of our customers are local and we’re absolutely thrilled for whoever it might be. The whole community has been down to the shop today, there’s a great buzz about the place and I’m sure the celebrations will continue for a good few weeks until the winner comes forward. Whoever they are, we wish them the very best of luck,” he said.

Mc McNamara’s €115m jackpot was the biggest lottery win ever in Europe to that point.

In an interview following her win, Ms McNamara revealed she’d meant to buy lines for the National Lotto and got confused when the shop assistant asked if she wanted a Euromillions ticket.

This jackpot total was surpassed in February 2019, when an anonymous Dublin Euromillions player won an incredible €175,475,380.

However, this is still a full €60m shy of the all-time Euromillions win of €240m, taken home by a player in Austria in December 2023.

Saturday’s National Lottery win was just the third of 2024. The winning numbers were: were: 1, 9, 10, 14, 26, and 40. The bonus number was 4.

“The latest Lotto jackpot winner is yet to come forward so we are continuing to appeal to all of our players who purchased their tickets in the Limerick City area to carefully check their tickets as one player now has a prize worth over €8.9 million waiting for them,” a spokesperson for the National Lottery said.

“The first thing that the winner should do is sign their ticket and keep it in a safe place.

“This is of course huge news to come to terms with so they should make contact with our prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to collect this incredible amount in Lotto HQ.”

Officials from the National Lottery will be at the store in Garryowen to officially announce it as the winning location.
